S K Shanthi got her Ph.D. from IFMR in Chennai, Prior to joining IFMR she worked at the Indian Statistical Institute, New Delhi as a temporary Lecturer and University of Southern California as a graduate student. For her Ph.D. she wrote a thesis on “Economics of Public Debt: India’s Experience (1960 to 1990).” Post PhD, she continued at IFMR as faculty before moving to Great Lakes Institute of Management as Chair Professor and also as Assistant Dean. Subsequently she served as the Director of India Development Foundation, Gurgaon. She was involved in the First State Finance Commission of Tamil Nadu, she was in the advisory group of the Finance Minister of Tamil Nadu and was a consultant for CII, Southern region. She has more than 20 years of teaching experience and she taught Economics to students of Business, Economics and Mathematics. Her research interests lie in the area of Macroeconomics and Public Policy. Her most recent work is on ‘Economic Empowerment of women through Skilling and Education’, a project funded by the IKEA Foundation and implemented by UNDP.
