Ph.D. in Environmental Studies, Ashoka University
Satyam Gupta is an ecologist with a Master’s in Ecology from Pondicherry University, where he focused on bioacoustics and mixed-species flocks in the Eastern Himalayas. He is currently researching frog breeding ecology in the Western Ghats under the supervision of Dr. Manvi Sharma. Satyam is skilled in various field techniques and has contributed to multiple wildlife conservation projects across India, working with marine and terrestrial mammals, birds, local communities and arthropods.
Satyam Gupta’s research interests are deeply rooted in the synergy between ecological understanding and effective conservation strategies. He utilizes a spectrum of methodologies, from bioacoustics to spatial analysis, to unravel the complexities of biodiversity. His fascination with animal behavior and community ecology drives his exploration of species interactions and their responses to environmental change. His expertise encompasses comprehensive habitat and biodiversity assessments, species occupancy surveys, camera trapping, mist-netting and a strong commitment to integrating local ecological knowledge into conservation practices. Currently, his focus on amphibian breeding ecology in the Western Ghats showcases his adaptability and dedication to diverse ecosystems. Fueled by a passion for fieldwork and a dedication to bridging scientific research with tangible conservation outcomes, he aims to contribute to developing sustainable solutions for biodiversity preservation.
