Sourav Ghosh

Advisor - Datla Human Immunome Lab

Program Director, Immunology of Tissue Resolution, Repair, and Regeneration, UMN Center for Immunology, Masonic Cancer Center; Professor of Pharmacology, University of Minnesota

Sourav Ghosh, Ph.D., is the Program Director of Immunology of Tissue Resolution, Repair, and Regeneration at the Center for Immunology and Professor of Pharmacology at the University of Minnesota. Originally from India, Dr. Ghosh earned his M.Sc. in Zoology from the University of Calcutta. He completed his Ph.D. in Molecular Sciences at the University of Tennessee under the mentorship of Dr. John V. Cox, where he studied protein trafficking, cytoskeletal dynamics and protein phosphorylation. He pursued postdoctoral training at the Salk Institute with Dr. Tony Hunter, focusing on protein kinase signaling pathways in neurodevelopment, cancer and immune regulation. Dr. Ghosh’s research explores how dying cells and inflammatory cues are sensed and interpreted by immune and stromal cells, influencing outcomes in tissue homeostasis, degeneration, and repair. In close collaboration with Dr. Carla V. Rothlin, their laboratory has uncovered key mechanisms by which recognition of dead cells leads to resolution of inflammation. Their interdisciplinary work bridges immunology, neurobiology, and regenerative biology to reveal fundamental principles of immune regulation in health and disease. His research has been continuously supported by the NIH, the Department of Defense, and private foundations, and published in leading journals including Cell, Science, Nature, PNAS and Immunity. Dr. Ghosh also plays a key role in global scientific education as Director of the Global Immunocourse, an initiative aimed at expanding access to advanced immunology training across international communities.
