Supriya Nayak

Supriya Nayak is an Odissi dance practitioner, certified Alexander Technique teacher, and co-founder of Studio Sama, Delhi. She holds an MA in History from the University of Delhi (2006). Supriya has been visiting faculty at Ashoka University for the Co-curricular and Performing Arts programmes. She has presented guest lectures and workshops for University of Toronto Mississauga, Spicmacay, Sahitya Kala Parishad, Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), and others.
Supriya is currently the only certified Alexander Technique teacher based in Delhi. She completed her Alexander Technique teacher training with Elaine Kopman and Howard Bockner in Toronto between 2015-2019 as per the standards recognized by Alexander Technique Canada (previously CanSTAT). She continues to do professional development training and is currently studying with Jeanne Barrett in Seattle. She is focused on disseminating the principals of this work to students in India through private lessons and workshops.
Supriya has performed Odissi in solo and group formats in India and overseas since 1999. She has worked with choreographers Kiran Segal, Rajendra Gangani, Lee Su-Feh, and Nova Bhattacharya, among others. She has presented performances for Sangeet Natak Akademi, ICCR, National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA), Bharat Bhavan, and danced at the Khajuraho Dance Festival, Konark Dance Festival, to mention a few. She is currently a dancer and co-choreographer for ‘Winged’, a duet inspired by ideas of flying as a symbol of hope, transformation, and connection across borders, produced by Sonia St-Michel Creations, Canada and supported by grants from the Canada Council for the Arts, the Québec Arts Council, the Canadian High Commission in Delhi. ‘Winged’ premiered at Ashoka University in 2024. Supriya’s articles on Odissi have been published online and in print.
