Dr. Sourav Chatterjee's Lab

I am a Ph.D. student working with Dr. Sourav Chatterjee at the Department of Chemistry. I earned my B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Chemistry from Veer Bahadur Singh Purvanchal University, Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh, India. Prior to join for PhD program, I was associated to Crystal Crop Protection Ltd. in Sonipat, Haryana, and Jubilant Biosys in Noida, Uttar Pradesh where I worked on many agrochemical and pharmaceutical chemistry projects respectively.
The emergence of organelle-targeted fluorescent probes enables real-time visualization of biomarkers within living cells to understand many biological functions. My research focuses on developing organelle selective fluorescent probes for bioimaging applications, precisely to real time monitor the organelle dynamics during disease progression. Key parameters like high quantum yield, photostability, significant Stoke’s shift, low phototoxicity, good signal-to-noise ratio, balanced lipophilicity, charge distribution, incorporation of specialized warheads for selective sensing are maintained while developing these probes to achieve optimal organelle targeting. Building on my contribution on synthesizing such probes, our lab aims to use those probes to understand various pathological processes at the cellular level including early detection of pathological changes in an organelle, disease progression at cellular level, and monitoring cellular stress responses. My PhD training in this research field will potentially help to advance my understanding of disease mechanisms and identify new therapeutic targets.
