Courses ranged from Computer Science to Biology, Physics and Chemistry with a wide range of topics, lab rotations and hands-on experiments. The programme ended on a high note with the closing ceremony attended by 18 science faculty, parents and the young scholars.
The YSP-Sciences was held broadly to expose Young Scholars with a wide array of disciplines available in the Sciences domain. The programme was designed to deliver an up close and personal experience to enthusiastic Young Scholars giving them exposure to research labs and vivid classrooms.
- The Plenary talks for YSP-Sciences scholars, kicked off with a talk on the Universe and the evolving story, conducted by Prof. Dipankar Bhattacharya. The students were intrigued to learn about how the Doppler effect causes the measured wavelengths from stars to be different from the emitted wavelengths and how gravity enables a survey of evolution at scales as large as the universe.
Similarly, the Faculty presentations began with a session by Prof. Rama Akondy who went over the basic concepts of the immune system, the key trends in the usage of the term ‘immunity boosting’ and critically examined products that claim to boost immunity.
Professor Roy conducted an assisted lab session wherein the scholars observed phytoplankton and diatoms through a microscope.
The cohort learnt about the properties of micro and macro algae: how it stores food for itself through photosynthesis, where it can be found, and its impacts on microbiology and human civilization.
The Scholars really enjoyed the content that was planned for them on all 5 days. The students enjoyed conducting experiments and got exposed to a broad level of research facts. Additionally, the faculties covered the entire spectrum of Sciences domain that Ashoka has on offer.
Staying on campus meant that the scholars also had a great time outdoors as they got an opportunity to experience several sports like water polo, the very Ashokan Frisbee, Cricket, Football and other games.
The YSP-Science counselors played an integral role in ensuring that the programme was a successful one. They rigorously engaged and ensured the wellbeing of the students. They also planned interesting activities like the Bollywood Dance Night, an Open Mic Forum, Movie nights and Residence Hall Ranting Sessions. The GESP Staff was proud to host the YSP-Sciences in collaboration with the science departments at Ashoka.
Student Testimonials – YSP Sciences 2022
“YSP Sciences was definitely the most memorable experience and the one I enjoyed the most were the sessions, the campus life, all the sports happening in the evening time. And every Professor taught us in a simple language even though they were teaching us concepts that were out of our syllabus, but we understood every session, we also bonded together. I just loved the YSP Campus Experience”.

“The YSP Sciences was a life changing experience, the vibe of Ashoka Campus is energizing. Also, the Faculties are very supportive and taught you the topic from layman’s perspective and the counselors added another dimension to both learning and engagement at YSP-Sciences. I thoroughly enjoyed the hands-on Lab sessions and sport activities that helped us unwind and bond on another level. Cheers and glad that I did YSP-Sciences.”
