Participating in the Professional Course on Advanced Microscopy (PCAM) 2025 at Ashoka University was an immersive experience that redefined my approach to research. The academic vibrancy of the Ashoka campus, combined with access to state-of-the-art facilities, created an ideal environment for high-level technical training. The hands-on sessions with advanced Zeiss systems were particularly rigorous, challenging me to master complex imaging workflows rather than just observe them. This training successfully bridged the gap between my experience as a junior research fellow in India and my future as a doctoral researcher in Germany. PCAM 2025 has, without a doubt, played an instrumental role in securing a PhD position.
Attending PCAM 2025 was an enriching experience that significantly strengthened my knowledge in microscopy. The course offered a well-balanced combination of theoretical concepts and hands-on exposure, allowing me to understand not just how microscopy techniques work, but why they are used in specific contexts. The structured sessions on light and electron microscopy principles, sample preparation, and image analysis helped me acquire a foundation in microscopy techniques. This course has been particularly valuable for my academic and career trajectory, as my interests lie in cancer research, space biology, and advanced biomedical applications. Moreover, interacting with experienced instructors and fellow participants fostered meaningful scientific discussions and broadened my perspective. Overall, the course has been a crucial step in my research journey that will directly support my future career goals.
For me, PCAM 2025 was not just a course organised by Ashoka University and ZEISS, but a very important learning phase in my academic journey. The program provided strong exposure to advanced microscopy techniques and helped me understand how complex scientific questions can be addressed and validated using a single, well-optimised imaging tool. The balance between theoretical sessions and hands-on training clearly demonstrated the power of imaging in modern life science research. Coming from a background in neuroscience, the course helped me broaden my perspective, and I am now strongly motivated to further work in imaging and structural biology. PCAM clarified how imaging bridges molecular structure and cellular function, which aligns well with my future research goals. I also deeply appreciated the excellent hospitality of the institution and the well-organised learning environment. Additionally, access to various online resources and learning materials during the course has been extremely helpful and will continue to support my academic and career development.
PCAM 2025 was one of the most enriching experiences of my academic journey. By combining the theoretical mechanics of sophisticated instruments with hands-on analysis of standard samples, the programme allowed me to bridge the gap between theory and practice. It was a privilege to gain practical experience with instruments like SIM, SIM², LSM, and Electron Microscopy, which I had previously only encountered in high-impact journal articles. The programme also helped me gain a holistic understanding of the bio-entrepreneurship landscape in India and the gap in translational research. Classes with scientists and educators from reputable institutions provided me with the technical foundation and confidence necessary for a budding researcher. I am certain that the knowledge gained through PCAM will be pivotal to my career, as mastering advanced microscopy is essential for excellence in experimental biology.
PCAM 2025 was a turning point in how I think about microscopy and its role in biological research. Instead of treating imaging as a supporting technique, the course showed me how it can drive questions and shape interpretations. The lectures helped me understand the basics of optics, fluorescence, and resolution in a clear, intuitive way, which made the instruments less intimidating and more logical. The hands-on sessions were especially valuable. Working directly with confocal, super-resolution, SEM, and TEM systems, along with sample preparation and staining, gave me the confidence to handle real research problems rather than idealised demos. This experience strengthened my academic direction. In plant ecology and plant biology, many questions revolve around how plants respond to biotic and abiotic factors at multiple scales, from tissues to whole organisms. PCAM showed me how microscopy can link ecological patterns to cellular and subcellular processes, such as tissue organisation, developmental responses, and stress-related changes. The course also gave me the confidence to engage with interdisciplinary research that combines field-based questions with advanced imaging. Overall, PCAM did not just train me in techniques; it refined how I approach plant-focused research and supported my long-term goal of pursuing a PhD in plant ecology and plant biology.
Join the next cohort of the Professional Course in Advanced Microscopy and gain the skills to excel in cutting-edge research and industry applications.
