Abstract: Slow Disaster is a story of the transformations of the Brahmaputra Valley, Assam, caused by (un)natural disasters. Drawing on fieldwork conducted in Majuli river island, the book engages with three interrelated issues — the role of the state in the production of hazardscape, the impact of disaster on rural livelihoods, and the politics of resistance among disaster-affected people. The book calls attention to slow-onset, long-term disasters that often go unnoticed."
