Is There a Modern Indian Literature?

A 13-week course offered by the renowned novelist and critic Amit Chaudhuri which was attended by participants worldwide in 2022, and by more than a hundred online participants in 2023. A collaboration between the Centre for the Creative and the Critical (CCC) at Ashoka University, The Oxford Research Centre for the Humanities (TORCH), and the Institute of Advanced Studies (IAS), University College London.
Please note: Ashoka University students who wish to attend in person or online will need to sign up for the class in the usual way, using the Ashoka Management System, unless they wish only to audit the class and not receive credits. Non-Ashoka applicants can send their name and details by 17th January, 5pm, Indian Standard Time to this email address: modernindianliterature@ashoka.edu.in
The course is open to all, irrespective of whether applicants are affiliated to a university or not, and it’s free of charge for those registering online. Non-Ashoka University participants will listen to the lectures and join the discussion online, but will not be expected to produce work for grading. Ashoka University students who are not part of the core class at Ashoka can also sit in on the class with other online participants and take part in the discussion, though they will not be part of the submissions and grading process.
The texts related to the course will be made available to all participants in advance.
A certificate of attendance will be given by the Centre for the Creative and the Critical to all participants joining online.
