Ph.D. University of California, DavisDr. Kalyani Chaudhuri is an Assistant Professor of Economics at Ashoka. She received her PhD in Economics at the University of California, Davis, in June 2025. Kalyani’s research addresses questions in behavioral economics and labor economics, using a combination of lab experiments, field experiments, and secondary data. Her recent research studies the behavioral and psychological drivers of the gender wage gap in modern developed economies. Additionally, she is also interested in the psychological barriers to effective public policies in developing economies like India.
Kalyani has prior experience teaching microeconomic theory and game theory as an independent instructor at UC Davis. At Ashoka, she is offering Experimental Economics (ECO 3610), a research-focused undergraduate elective course, in Monsoon 2025.
