Praveen Venkatachalam

YIF Class of 2021

B.A. Economics
Madras Christian College

After completing his schooling in Chennai, as an aberrant kid, Praveen chose to study Economics over Medicine and Engineering. His organisational and management skills were nurtured during his tenure as the student treasurer while pursuing his Economics from Madras Christian College, where he organised several college-level events and one national-level conference. Having sailed through tempestuous ups and downs in life, Praveen has learnt to build an empire out of the stones thrown at him. Sitting and contemplating at Lincoln’s inn fields near the London School of Economics (LSE), marked the turning point of his life. Having been shook and inspired by LSE’s economics education during his summer school, a frustrated and disappointed Praveen took things into his hand to transform economics teaching in south-India. In his quest for achieving it, he started a first of its kind YouTube channel – Inspire Economics, which explains seemingly complex economics concepts in an intelligible manner. His plans to develop and diversify his channel are underway and he is always open for conversations about education. A Jack of all trades in the true sense, he plays guitar, sings, dances, and also participates in marathons. His desire to cultivate a multidisciplinary perspective at everyday issues coupled with a yearning for an intellectual peer group motivated him to join the Young India Fellowship.
