Senna Singh

Ph.D. Psychology

Senna Singh is currently a student of the PhD program in the Department of Psychology. She is extremely interested in exploring the impact that the seminal years have on an individual’s course of development when the brain is particularly vulnerable to the influences of the environment. One such experience which can lead to long-lasting and persistent changes to an individual’s well-being and functioning is the incidence of family violence. The exposure to any form of family violence during childhood can have profound physical and psychological consequences during adulthood such as emotional dysregulation as well as an enhanced likelihood of victimisation and perpetration. Working under the tutelage of Dr. Simantini Ghosh, Senna gets to explore what constitutes this cycle of intergenerational transmission of violence and abuse. She believes exploring this topic via large-scale data sets is essential to disseminate knowledge about family violence, which is otherwise a taboo topic within Indian society, as well as in order to develop and implement interventions.

Having completed three years at Delhi University and holding an MSc in Children’s Psychological Disorders from Cardiff University, she has been lucky enough to have immense exposure and practical experience which has equipped her to work in the Ghosh Research Lab.
