Minor and Concentration in China Studies

The Ashoka Centre for China Studies is offering a Minor and Concentration in China Studies. These programmes are targeted at undergraduate students who have an interest in learning about China from an interdisciplinary perspective, and may include Mandarin language study.

  • Minor

    • A Minor requires six China Studies (CHI) or cross-listed courses (24 credits)
    • There is one mandatory course: “Introduction to the Study of China” (CHI 2001). This course will be offered during the Monsoon semester only.
    • A maximum of two language courses can count towards the minor.
    • There is no cap on the number of cross-listed courses that can count towards the Minor in China Studies.
    • Students who have already been taking either language classes or relevant China studies courses prior to Monsoon 2022, and who do not need those credits for another major or minor, may be granted retrospective credits towards the minor after a process of review. If you are in this situation, please contact ACCS [chinastudies@ashoka.edu.in] at least six weeks before the end of your final semester.

  • Concentration

    • A concentration requires four China Studies (CHI) or cross-listed courses (16 credits).
    • There is one mandatory course requirement: “Introduction to the Study of China” (CHI 2001). This course will be offered during the Monsoon semester only.
    • Language, cross-listing, and other requirements all remain the same as for the Minor.
