The PhD in Environmental Studies programme conforms to all Ashoka PhD programme guidelines. Additional guidelines specific to the Environmental Studies PhD programme are described below. The Environmental Studies programme reserves the right to revise the curriculum and requirements from time to time.
The Ph.D. programme at the EVS department is a joint initiative with the Department of Biology, and PIs at the EVS department take Ph.D. students under Behaviour, Ecology and Evolution (BEE) within the Department of Biology. Please refer to the BEE Ph.D. program of the Department of Biology for further details on eligibility, selection process and program structure.
As an interdisciplinary department, we encourage Ph.D. students to also do some interdisciplinary work. Many students have interdisciplinary chapters in their thesis where they work with anthropologists, historians, remote sensors, physicists, psychologists, economists, and other disciplines.
EVS department will be taking four Ph.D. students in the coming semester – Monsoon 2026. Details for application are provided on the Biology website.
