Andre Beteille is one of India’s leading sociologists and writers. He is particularly well known for his studies of the caste system in South India. He is a Professor of Sociology at the Delhi School of Economics at the University of Delhi where he is Professor Emeritus of Sociology.
He received his undergraduate and graduate degrees in anthropology from the University of Calcutta. Thereafter he received his doctorate from the University of Delhi. After a brief stint at the Indian Statistical Institute as a research fellow, he joined the faculty of sociology at the DSE.
In his long and distinguished career, he has in the past taught at Oxford University, Cambridge University, the University of Chicago, and the London School of Economics. He is currently Chairman of the Centre for Studies in Social Sciences, Calcutta and of the Indian Council of Social Science Research.
In 2005, Professor Béteille received the Padma Bhushan as a mark of recognition for his work in the field of Sociology. The same year he was appointed a member of the Prime Minister’s National Knowledge Commission. In 2006, following a proposal for increasing caste-based reservations, Andre Beteille quit the Commission in protest. In 2006, he was made National Professor.
Amit Chandra is the Managing Director of Bain Capital Private Equity and also serves as its Head of Indian Operations. Amit joined Bain Capital Private Equity in 2008 to found the Mumbai office and focuses on investments in India. He has 20 years of investment management experience including 13 years at DSP Merrill Lynch, from where he retired in 2007 as Board Member and Managing Director. Amit was named a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum in 2007.
Amit is among India’s most prolific philanthropists; he gives away more than 75 percent of his annual earnings to causes of his choice. He serves as a Trustee/Board Member of The Akanksha Foundation and GiveIndia, India’s leading philanthropic exchange and is also a Board Member of L&T Finance Holdings Limited, JamshetJi Tata Trust and Navajbai Ratan Tata Trust. He was named the Next Generation Philanthropic Leader of the Year by Forbes in 2013. He has Bachelors and Masters Degrees from VJTI, Bombay University and Boston College.
Puneet Dalmia is the Managing Director and Vice-President of Dalmia Bharat Sugar and Industries Limited. He started his career as the Co-founder and Chairman of JobsAhead.com, one of India’s most profitable e-recruitment sites which was later acquired by Monster.com.
Currently, Puneet is Chairman of ASSOCHAM’s National Council on Manufacturing and a board member of Central Square Foundation. He has been a member of FICCI’s Executive Committee and the Young President’s Organization (YPO) Delhi Chapter. In 2010 he served as the Co-Chairman of the manufacturing committee of FICCI. He was also an Advisory Board Member of NSRCEL (NS Raghvan Center for Entrepreneurship) IIM Bangalore. Puneet has a Bachelors degree from IIT Delhi and an MBA (gold medal) from IIM Bangalore

Ashish Dhawan co-founded ChrysCapital, one of India’s leading private equity firms, in 1999. He has served on the company’s board since its founding. He left his full-time position at ChrysCapital in 2012 after twenty years in the investment management business to found Central Square Foundation (CSF), a grant-making organization and policy think-tank focused on transforming the quality of school education in India.
Ashish’s passion for education has led him to spearhead the founding of Ashoka University. Ashish also serves on the board of several education non-profits including Akanksha Foundation, 3.2.1 Education Foundation, Teach For India, Centre for Civil Society, Janaagraha, India School Leadership Institute and Bharti Foundation. He holds Bachelors and Masters degrees from Yale and Harvard.
Vineet Gupta is the Managing Director of Jamboree Education, a leading education services provider with operations across 14 cities and 3 countries. Jamboree is the largest company of its kind in India. He started his entrepreneurial career in 1992 by setting up a successful packaging company. Subsequently, he co-founded Parabolic Drugs Limited, an API manufacturing company. He continues to serve on its Board.
Vineet is a Charter Member of TiE and serves as the Education Co-Chair for PHD Chamber of Commerce. Vineet holds a Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Delhi.
Deep Kalra is the founder of online travel company, MakeMyTrip.com. In 2010, he took the company public on NASDAQ, making MakeMyTrip the first Indian travel company to list overseas. Deep has been recognized by Ernst & Young as Entrepreneur of the Year – Business Transformation in 2011. He was identified as the most powerful digital influencer in India in a 2012 survey conducted by Impact magazine and KPMG India.
He is an active angel investor in the Internet space. He is also passionate about giving back and is a founding member of “I am Gurgaon”, an NGO focused on improving the quality of life in Gurgaon. He is also closely involved with Udayan Care and GiveIndia. Deep holds Bachelors and Masters degrees from St. Stephen’s College and IIM Ahmedabad.
Rudrangshu Mukherjee is Professor of History at Ashoka University. He is a renowned historian and author, and was most recently Editor of the Editorial Pages, at The Telegraph, Kolkata.
Prof. Mukherjee has taught history at the University of Calcutta and held visiting appointments at Princeton University, the University of Manchester and the University of California, Santa Cruz. Prof. Mukherjee studied at Calcutta Boys’ School, Presidency College, Kolkata, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, and St. Edmund Hall, Oxford. He was awarded a D.Phil in Modern History by the University of Oxford in 1981.
Prof Mukherjee is internationally acclaimed as a historian of the revolt of 1857 in India. His first book Awadh in Revolt, 1857-58: A Study of Popular Resistance has become a standard reference on the subject. He has looked at the 1857 rebellion in four other books: Spectre of Violence: The 1857 Kanpur Massacres, Mangal Pandey: Brave Martyr or Accidental Hero?, Dateline 1857: Revolt against the Raj and The Year of Blood: Essays on 1857.
He has also authored and edited several books on other themes, including The Penguin Gandhi Reader, Trade and Politics and the Indian Ocean World: Essays in Honour of Ashin Das Gupta, Remembered Childhood: Essays in Honour of Andre Beteille, New Delhi: The Making of a Capital and Great Speeches of Modern India. His forthcoming book is Nehru & Bose: Parallel Lives.

Pramath Raj Sinha is a Senior Advisor of the Albright Stonebridge Group, India and the Founder and Managing Director of 9.9 Mediaworx Private Limited. Prior to founding 9.9 Media, he was a Partner at Mckinsey and led the ABP Group, one of India’s leading and most diversified media conglomerates. Pramath helped set up and served as the Founding Dean of the Indian School of Business (ISB). He continues to be a member of its Board of Governors.
Pramath is a Director on the Boards of PRADAN, India’s leading development institution focused on improving livelihoods in the country’s poorest district and of the Central Square Foundation, a philanthropic fund focused on improving the educational outcomes for low-income children in India. He holds a Bachelors degree from IIT Kanpur and an MSE and PhD from University of Pennsylvania.

Siddharth Yog is Co-Founder and Managing Partner of The Xander Group, a realty investment fund founded in 2005. He has 19 years of experience in real estate and has previously worked with Bain & Company in New York, Deutsche Bank Real Estate Investment Management in Frankfurt, and Feedback Ventures in New Delhi. In 2006 he was voted by Private Equity Real Estate magazine as one of 20 global stars of the future. In August 2014 he was appointed to the Harvard Business School faculty, where as Senior Lecturer in the finance unit, he teaches courses on Real Property Asset Management and Investing in Emerging Markets.
Siddharth is a member of the President’s Global Advisory Council, a member of the Committee on University Resources, and a founding member of the International Advisory Board of the Real Estate Academic Initiative, all at Harvard University; and Chair of Yuj Kutumba, the Yog Family Foundation. Siddharth holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and was elected a Baker Scholar. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from the University of Delhi.
