Synthesising value-added products as a substitute for non-renewable energy sources has been a major area of research worldwide. As this research focuses on the synthesis and analysis of catalysts towards energy conversion, it requires a deep understanding of many analytical techniques. Our group focuses on tackling this problem by utilising electrochemical and spectrochemical techniques. My major interest is in developing iron-based molecular electrocatalysts for electrochemical hydrogen evolution reactions. Pyridine-2,6-dicarboxamide, a redox-active ligand and its iron complexes are electrochemically analysed and their activity towards hydrogen evolution reaction under varying pKa conditions are studied thoroughly. Appended functional groups over the pyridine-2,6-dicarboxamide ligand are varied to understand the influence of redox-active ligands in catalysis. My research interest extends in studying these systems for small molecule activation under heterogeneous conditions. By electrochemically grafting these molecular catalysts over different carbon surfaces enable their heterogenous HER studies.
