Mathematical Cognition & Digital Gaming
General Questions of Study:
- How do we apply theories of educational psychology, cognition, and game-design to create effective digital games for learning?
- What in-game features are useful for building mathematical (or other types of) knowledge in players?
- How to best support teachers in using well-designed games for teaching and learning?
Game-prototypes and curricular materials are designed, with varying design features as independent variables, to specifically test their effects on learning. Two types of data are primarily collected: knowledge tests and in-game log-file behavioral data.
