Student Buddy Program

The Student Buddy Network is a structured mentorship for students enrolled in the Academic Bridge Programme.

Under this programme, the Undergraduate Writing Programme connects incoming ABP students with an ABP senior as a ‘buddy’ to help them navigate the initial months of life at university. This stems from a recognition that navigating Ashoka—socially and academically, even culturally—is not easy for everyone. To that end, the Student Buddy Network attempts to provide academic support, networking support, emotional support, and social support to all incoming ABP students to best navigate the transition to university life by linking them to empathetic and guiding seniors who have experience of making the same transition.

The Reading Room is a series of semi-formal and formal workshops and reading sessions held to foster a sense of community among incoming ABP students through an emphasis on collective, collaborative reading. These sessions attempt to engender a curiosity for reading and collective learning that students can carry with them into their academic lives at Ashoka.

In addition to the formal support that all ABP students receive to assist in acclimatising to university life, the Reading Room attempts to enable students to participate and form long-lasting relationships around academic curiosities that go beyond the classroom and into wider university life and help students find reading communities and social groups they feel comfortable in.
