Volunteering and Engaging with OLS

Experiential Learning Module – YIF

  • In the year 2019-20, the OLS collaborated with a group of four YIF students to work on two projects: (i) Assistive Technology Room: A technology centre for OLS: As a part of this project, the YIF students assisted in the office’s efforts towards researching, identifying, and assessing the usability of various assistive technology tools to support students with disabilities at Ashoka University. Based on this, they also designed the layout of the Assistive Technology Room, which is currently being set up in the new library building. (ii) Outreach project: As a part of this project, the YIF students reached out to organizations and schools supporting students with disabilities across India, identified potential applicants, and supported them through the admission process at Ashoka.
  • In the year 2020-21, the OLS collaborated with a group of five YIF students and launched the College Readiness and Accessibility program, a nationwide initiative to spread awareness of the educational rights amongst students with disabilities. Through this programme, the office aimed to explore and bring to light the lived experiences of students with disabilities in high schools. In doing so, it also attempted to examine the current level of structural and institutional support these students with disabilities receive to pursue higher education.

Summer Internships – UG

  • Every year, the OLS offers internships to undergraduate students at Ashoka in the area of neurodiversity and inclusion. As a part of this, students work on planning and implementing a social media awareness campaign aimed at creating awareness on neurodiversity on campus. They also prepare weekly newsletters covering various aspects of neurodiversity, to be shared with the Ashoka community. Along with that, they also work on expanding the reach of the Peer Learning Support Programme (PLSP).
