About OLS

The Office of Learning Support (OLS) at Ashoka University was set up in 2016 to support students with Learning Disabilities. Over the last few years, the office has supported students with visual impairment, hearing impairment, autism, attention deficits, cerebral palsy along with various specific learning disabilities. The office acts as a central resource hub on specific-needs-related information and services for the University and also promotes a collaborative approach to implement inclusive practices at Ashoka.

Vision and Mission

The vision of the Office of Learning Support is to create an environment of equity, inclusivity, and diversity at the Ashoka University campus. It strives to be at the forefront of implementing Universal Design for Learning (UDL) in the higher education system in the country.

The office aims to promote a sustainable culture on campus that accepts disability as diversity and learning differences as a matter of routine. The mission is to engage the entire Ashoka community to enable equitable access to education for all learners.

What We Do

Assessment of Learning Needs

The office conducts screening and (in)formal assessments to identify any learning challenges that would hinder the student’s academic performance.

Learning Support Plan (LSP)

A brief Learning Support Plan (LSP) is created for each student based on their specific learning needs. This document focuses on accommodations and modifications to be accorded to the student.

Academic Accommodations

Accommodations or adjustments are set on a case-by-case basis, individualized to each student and their current learning needs. Academic adjustments are planned to provide students equal access to the university’s academic curriculum.

General Academic Support

The OLS offers all Ashoka students a variety of general academic support services that are designed to help them maximize their academic success. These support services include time management skills & planning, effective academic learning strategies and overall executive functioning skills such as self-management and metacognition among others.

Case Managers

The office acts as a case manager for a student who requests support. It coordinates with concerned authorities for possible intervention.

Resource Centre

The OLS is a resource centre for learning strategies and for assistive technology solutions to support students with specific learning needs. It aims to use the latest assistive technology tools for academic and physical accessibility.

Raising Awareness

The OLS organizes several events and workshops to spread awareness and sensitize the Ashoka community members towards various disabilities.  This has been done in the past by observing several Disability Awareness days and Guest Speaker sessions. Workshops included Sign Language learning, Demystifying Dyslexia, Accessible Content Creation session, etc.

Who We Support

Disability services are provided for students with physical, sensory, neurological, and learning difficulties.

Academic Coaching and mentoring services are provided for English Language Learners (ELL) and students who face difficulties in executive functioning and academics.
